A meeting is being planned to discuss the rationale behind moving Social Worker, Kristin Moses to Frazer. She is a 17yr veteran to Roberts Elementary. She has been a great asset to our community by serving in the best interest of all students and families. There is stilll time to email and call on behalf of keeping Mrs. Moses at Roberts. The Superintendent is aware of concerns regarding this move and has been working with the Principal of Roberts and Executive Director of Student Support Services, Patty Clark, who supervises the social workers. A meeting with the Roberts PTO President, Katie Sojewicz, and Principal, Ann Sherwood will be on Wednesday to discuss this further. Anyone interested in contacting Director of Student Support Services, Patty Clark ([email protected]), should do so prior to Wednesday's meeting. If you would like to forward your email to Katie Sojewicz so she has if for the meeting, please feel free to send it to [email protected] Some thoughtful words are currently circulating that brings positive attention for Mrs. Moses. Every call and email on her behalf is appreciated. "Roberts parents are simply amazing! While the entire population at Roberts benefits from the nurture and support of Kristin Burns Moses, many of our children without the same home support that you all offer have spent years building a trusting relationship with her. She deals with many behind the scene family and behavioral issues that help all our Roberts students become healthy and productive citizens. Your support for Kristin and all of the staff here is overwhelming. You help create the atmosphere that makes Roberts a great place to work and attend. Parents, you are much appreciated!" "Dear Superintendent Contreras, I am writing to express my concern over the transfer of Kristen Moses out of Roberts School. Although my daughter is no longer a student at Roberts since she is now in high school, Mrs. Moses was a positive force in her life, and in the lives of the other students at Roberts School. As you know, Principal Janet Kimatian -who was a great leader at Roberts, bringing the school to a highly deserved reputation of quality - has retired and a new principal will be taking over. This change in leadership will be an adjustment for the staff, students and parents of the Roberts School community. With this change in leadership, fostering a sense of stability to students who use the services of the Social Worker is even more important. I understand that many factors go into the decision to transfer a teacher, administrator or other staff within the school district. I believe that the children’s best interests should be at the heart of any such decision. Mrs. Moses has dedicated 17 years to Roberts School and is a vital part of that community. While I understand that her talents may be a positive force at Frazier to help the children there, her established relationship with the families and students at Roberts is an important and irreplaceable component of her presence there, especially during this leadership transition period. While we, as parents, are not aware of all the factors that led to the decision behind the transfer of Mrs. Moses, I am joining with many other concerned parents to ask that you reconsider this decision, and allow Mrs. Moses to continue her work at Roberts" "Dear Superintendent Contreras, I am writing to add my voice to the many others that you are likely hearing from today regarding the reassignment of Kristin Moses from Roberts K-8. Ms. Moses has been an integral part of the Roberts family for many years, and has built excellent relationships with students and their families. This year, we are adjusting to a new principal and would benefit greatly from having Ms. Moses as a consistent presence in the children's lives during this transition. Please consider keeping Ms. Moses at Roberts. It is seemingly callous changes like this that undermine parent faith in the district, and I am certain that it was not your intention to cause any additional angst. I look forward to your reply. Thank you for all that you do for this grateful school community. I know that your job is not an easy one, but you are making a difference. I hope that parent feedback on issues like this, where there is opportunity to show your sensitivity to things parents feel strongly about, is taken in the spirit of collaboration in which it is meant." I am sad to announce that our Social Worker, Kristin Moses, has been transferred from Roberts to Frazer. Mrs. Moses has been at Roberts for 17 years. This is not a transfer that she requested and our new principal, Ms. Sherwood has fought unsuccessfully to keep her here. Below is a copy of an email I sent this morning to the Superintendent expressing my concerns about a district decision bening made without thought to how it will affect the children at Roberts. I urge anyone who shares the same concerns to email the Super. I think it is very important that she hear from as many Roberts families as possible. The Super's email is: [email protected]
Good Morning Superintendent Contreras, I am writing to express my concerns over the transfer of our current Social Worker, Kristin Moses, from Roberts to Frazer. Mrs. Moses has spent the past 17 years at Roberts working tirelessly with students and families. She has cultivated relationships that should be maintained. Mrs. Moses truly works everyday for the best interests of all the children at Roberts.Mrs. Moses is an integral part of the Roberts community and I think she should remain at Roberts. I am especially concerned that Mrs. Moses will not be available this year for our children at Roberts. This particular year will be a huge transition year due to a new administrative team. I believe that all efforts should be made to provide support and continuity for our children, not more change. In addition, transferring Mrs. Moses in the middle of the summer denies the children and families at Roberts an opportunity to say goodbye and to properly prepare for this upheaval. On behalf of the parent community, a group of parents and I respectfully request an opportunity to sit down and meet with you to further discuss our concerns about how these district level decisions are affecting Roberts. Please let me know when you are available to meet. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Respectfully, Katie Sojewicz |
