Syracuse Opera is offering free tickets to middle or high school-aged youth who would like to attend the final dress rehearsal of Porgy & Bess on Friday, April 4 at 7pm at the Crouse Hinds Theater. A foundation is underwriting the cost so all seats are free for this performance.
This offer allows young people, accompanied by either a parent(s) or youth worker/other adult chaperone(s), who would not normally have the resources, to attend and experience this great American musical opera.
Set in fictional Catfish Row, Porgy & Bess tells the story of Porgy, a poor disabled African American man who tries to save Bess from a life of heartache and despair. It is a very uplifting and inspirational story dramatized by the music of toe-tapping, finger snapping and soul soothing American jazz. Music for Porgy & Bess was composed by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward. It is based on the play Porgy, by DuBose and Dorothy Heyward.
Please contact Jim Homa at Syracuse Opera to order your tickets. Jim can be reached at 475-5915, or at [email protected]
